2020 Skills Maintenance

Skills Maintenance

Skills Maintenance is intended to ensure that all patrolling Lifesavers remain proficient in their skills and display the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the patrol award criteria for which they are being assessed. The skills maintenance process assists to:

  • Ensure ongoing competency of members in their area of training and activity
  • Maintain the standards of knowledge and expertise of Lifesavers
  • Satisfy legal, organisational and statutory requirements
  • Reinforce and maintain LSV’s service commitment to the beach-going public

All members who wish to undertake patrol duties or compete in competitions at a State or National level should undertake annual skills maintenance activities to maintain proficiency.

Skills maintenance includes practical assessment activities and (for some awards) an online theory component. Skill maintenance is in place for the awards listed below and should be completed on an annual basis unless stated otherwise.
