As a not-for-profit, volunteer based community service, the Jan Juc SLSC hold a number of fundraising events throughout the year. All proceeds from these events go directly to purchasing first aid and rescue equipment as well as keeping our volunteer lifesavers up to date with first aid and resuscitation techniques.

The course is challenging, but is regularly used by runners and walkers and overlooks much of the stunning coastline between the two points. Runners can expect to complete the 8km course in between 30 – 45 minutes. Joggers can expect to complete the 8 km course in between 45 – 60 minutes.

There are 10 categories, spot prizes, medals and lots, lots more.

Heaps of random sports gear giveaways will be awarded before, during and after both races.

Danger Swim Series - Saturday, 16 January 2021

In its 23rd year, the Danger Swim Series at Pt Danger (Torquay Front Beach) is one of the biggest and most popular open water swims in Victoria.

This event is run by the Jan Juc SLSC at the calm, protected and picturesque location that the locals fondly refer to as "Cosy Corner". This idyllic setting is protected by Point Danger. There are three race distances incorporated into the Danger Swim Series – 500m, 1km, 2.5km and 5km – attracting around 2000 competitors, with ages ranging from 9 – 75.

The event provides a great day for spectators by virtue of the triangular course with the start and finish being almost in the same place. The natural amphitheatre of the grass slopes over looking the course allows excellent viewing of the whole event. A line of mature Norfolk pines allows plenty of shade and it is a great location for a race day picnic. Torquay is an easy drive of a little over an hour from Melbourne and plenty of free parking at the event is available. Permanent buoys define the approximate course year round for those wishing to train.

Prizes are awarded to all age group categories for men and women, as well as spot prizes being awarded throughout the day. Each competitor receives an event bag including a T-shirt, swim cap and other goodies.

The water safety provided by qualified Jan Juc SLSC lifesavers is second to none and the event is organised by over 250 Jan Juc SLSC volunteer members.

The Danger Swim Series is a wonderful event, attracting competitors from around the country including previous winner and current record holder, Australian Ironman Champion Ky Hurst of Queensland in the record time of 8 minutes 47 seconds for the 1km course. Good luck beating that!
